English Kills Art Gallery is pleased to present the inaugural Maximum Perception Performance Festival, December 11-12, 2009 at English Kills Art Gallery in Brooklyn, NY.
Over 2 nights, the Maximum Perception Performance Festival will be a showcase for over 20 national and international performance artists, focusing on presenting a dynamic range of contemporary performance practice from the best emerging artists in performance.
Curators Peter Dobill and Phoenix Lights seek to present a counterpoint to the fiscally bloated, dilettante-based spectacle that has consumed the image of performance art in New York City. The Maximum Perception Performance Festival will feature newly commissioned performance works in addition to site-specific actions and ongoing projects from all participating artists.
Established as a critically acclaimed exhibition in 2008 to survey the Brooklyn performance art scene, the Maximum Perception Performance Festival has evolved to become a yearly showcase for the forefront of performance art practice in New York City and beyond.

Entranced to the ecstasy of the ephemeral - actions swallowed whole at creation.
Performance offers the actuality of time embraced and elastic.
The artist folds into and out of their body in expression to a viewer - an offering to achieve a maximum perception of the senses; an overwhelming and enveloping moment in time.
What stands for performance now requires a break necessary to produce a new path, denying inspirational reverence to achieve progress and a vision towards new creations.
Staring back in to the eyes that overlook us, we demonstrate to the modern world a fiercely primal statement; what has been must be burned so that the ashes can be swallowed for our own expression.
We produce performance that is "new" - our expression seeking a focus through the risk of untried and untested original concepts.
Ignorance of our history is not tolerated - our expression rises from intelligence, understanding, and scholarship.
Our expression is not bound by the oppression of the viewer's whims and limits; in order to attack perception, we must be at risk with our time spent - no compromise to expectations.
Our development into new creation is assisted through the interconnected experiences of all performance artists - embracing all philosophies to further inform and question our own practices.
We believe in the power and vision of performance artists to transform performance art itself.
